How important was education for the monks of Cwmhir? What was the role of Cistercians in education? Did they go to universities? These are some of the questions we will consider in this talk. We will examine education amongst the Welsh Cistercians, with particular reference to Cwmhir, discovering how scholarship connected the monks and the surrounding community with the wider world.
Dr Rhun Emlyn is a lecturer in medieval and Welsh history at the Department of History and Welsh History at Aberystwyth. He specialises in aspects of the medieval church and education, especially the movement and careers of Welsh clergy.
