Performance: Welsh triple harp by Sioned Webb

We are delighted to announce that Abbey Cwmhir Heritage Trust’s Open Afternoon on 17th May will feature a performance at 2pm on the music and history of the Welsh triple harp by Sioned Webb.
Sioned Webb is well respected as a broadcaster, educator, folklorist and composer. Having performed in Canada, South America, Asia and Europe, she has also published many books on Welsh music. A national triple harp winner in Wales, she is now collaborating with the oud player from Palestine, Salih Hassan and is on tour with the storyteller and actress Mair Tomos Ifans.
We are very fortunate that Sioned’s performance will be held at St Mary’s Church, Abbeycwmhir, LD1 6PH.  St Mary’s Church, built in 1865-6 in the French Gothic style, was designed by Poundley & Walker, well known local architects, and displays stained glass windows of regional and national importance. The East End glass is by Heaton, Butler and Bayne, and the West window by Clayton and Bell. We feel sure that the church will provide an evocative setting for Sioned’s music.
After the performance there will be light refreshments in the nearby Philips Hall, Abbeycwmhir. Parking and toilet facilities will be available throughout the afternoon at Philips Hall.
At 4pm we will hold a short AGM.  Whilst voting will be restricted to members, all are welcome to stay for this, as we will briefly showcase our previous years activities and describe our forward programme.
In order to manage the seating capacity in the church and catering, we would be grateful if you would book your attendance at Sioned’s performance through Eventbrite. The Eventbrite booking will require a minimum donation of £1, which will go towards the refreshments and other costs for hosting the event.

If you only wish to attend our AGM, then you do not need to book.
St Mary’s Church is kindly allowing us to use the church at no cost, and so we also feel that it is appropriate to have a retiring collection in order to support this special building.
